Data from the official IECEx Online Certificate System (OCS), covering all equipment Certificates of Conformity (CoC) issued under the IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme since its inception. Updated May 2026.

Certificates Issued Per Year (2003โ€“2025)

IECEx certification has grown steadily since 2003, with over 79,500 equipment certificates issued to date. The 2020 dip reflects COVID-19 disruption to testing and manufacturing, followed by a strong recovery. 2025 is on track to be the highest year on record.

Top 15 Certification Bodies (ExCBs)

85 ExCBs worldwide are approved to issue IECEx certificates. The top 5 alone account for roughly 40% of all certificates issued. CSA Group (code: CP) leads with over 11,600 certificates, followed by Baseefa (UK), SIRA/CSA (UK), Bureau Veritas (France), and UL (USA).

Market Share Over Time โ€” Top 5 ExCBs

The certification market has become increasingly distributed over time. While the top 5 ExCBs dominated early years, smaller and regional certification bodies have grown their share significantly since 2015.

Sources & Methodology

  • Data source: IECEx Online Certificate System (OCS) โ€” the official public database operated by the IEC.
  • API endpoint: ocs-api.iecex-certs.com/v1 โ€” queried May 2026.
  • Scope: Equipment Certificates of Conformity (CoC) only. Test Reports (ExTR) and Quality Assessment Reports (QAR) are excluded.
  • Certificate counts reflect all issues (including reissues/renewals). Status breakdown: 72,262 current, 7,879 cancelled, 1,400 expired, 403 suspended.
  • ExCB list: IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme โ€” Contact a Certification Body
  • Years 2014โ€“2015 may be slightly undercounted due to API pagination limits (5,000 results per query).
